Welcome Week 13 || 100MileMonday

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10

WEEK 12 MILEAGE FORM

…………………………

The above is a video that has inspired me over the years and continues to! Here is a little background story for those who have never heard of “team Hoyt”:

As a result of oxygen deprivation to Rick’s brain at the time of his birth, Rick was diagnosed as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and would never be able to talk or walk. Dick and Judy were advised to institutionalize Rick because there was no chance of him recovering, and little hope for Rick to live a “normal” life. Rick’s parents said “no” to the recommendation to institutionalize him. In the spring of 1977, Rick told his father that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile run. Far from being a long-distance runner, Dick agreed to push Rick in his wheelchair and they finished all 5 miles, coming in next to last. That night, Rick told his father, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicapped.” This realization was just the beginning of what would become over 1,000 races completed, including marathons, duathlons and triathlons (6 of them being Ironman competitions). Also adding to their list of achievements, Dick and Rick biked and ran across the U.S. in 1992, completing a full 3,735 miles in 45 days.

Why does this inspire me? Many reasons! :) Besides the determination + dedication of the father and Dick’s love for his son, I think the greatest inspiration I find from this story is it is a perfect example of God’s strength made perfect in weakness.  2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”! So, when the going gets tough and you are ready to give up, remember…. the same God who has given strength to this father-son team to achieve the “impossible” is the same God who daily strengthens us both physically and spiritually[Isaiah 40:29]! Spring100 is coming to an end. Just 7 more days and we will be crossing this challenge’s finish line! But for those of us who are saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the call to run with endurance will continue on and we can do so as we find our strength in the Lord!  “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” Psalm 48:14

About Rachel

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 1:18-20

I don’t have many plans for the summer….I’m going to a wedding, and I’m sure many other things will find their way into my busy life!
I hope I’ll continue to walk after this is over. I doubt I’ll get to it as regularly tho ;)
Have an awesome last week of Spring100 everyone!!!

    1. Yes, life has a way of getting busy unexpectedly doesn’t it?! :) :) Enjoy the summer and whatever it brings. <3 <3

  8. Like seeing the photos. Keep going, everyone—we’re almost there!

I will probably keep walking some after Spring100, since it is more of a habit now than it was before I started. I certainly should keep walking. ;)

Like several others, Lord-willing I will be attending a cousin’s wedding this summer, along with normal everyday life…

  9. Hello there! Yes I plan to continue walking/running, but I have to say, were it not for this challenge, several miles would not have been done! It’s easy for me to make excuses to not go out and get it done! So, thank you for the spurring on…not just physically, but spiritually! This week will most likely be the last I log as I won’t be recording what I do when I leave town for work for the next 10 days. :)
    Blessings to you!

    1. :) :) :) Ah, praise the Lord! I am so humbled by your comment. God is so faithful, isn’t He?! Thank you for joining us, Tera! You have blessed me by your participation. Enjoy that work trip and may the Lord richly bless you as you continue to run the spiritual race set before you!! <3

  10. I’ve been missing out on all the walking/running fun over here! Great job everyone!! :)

  11. I hope to continue waking/running as long as I am able! Thank you for all the work and encouragement you but into this challenge, Rachel!! ?

Summer plans are always iffy.. but I do plan on going forward with hope and victory in Jesus into whatever the Lord has for me. ?

    1. Your summer plans sound like the best yet!! :) Amen. Whatever the summer and this life may hold, we are victorious in Christ! So thankful for that. ☺️? Thank you for your continued encouragement and comments! I so love receiving them!

  12. I do hope to continue walking, although I will probably not get in nearly as much as I have been! :) I also plan to go on the trips my sister Hannah wrote about! Along with that I should be doing normal activities.

  13. Hard to believe it’s almost over! It was such a fun challenge!!

Yes, I’m plan to keep going. My mom and I have been walking/running for a couple of years , but it was so nice to be encouraged through the challenge. It’s been a lot easier to stay on track while looking forward see how many miles we can log for the week.

This summer we expect to be very busy keeping people comfortable. Right now we have a large job near the ocean, which has allowed for a fun visit on the weekend. We plan on attending a wedding, a conference (the Forge Conference) and a family get together in Beaver’s Bend.

    Thanks Rachel!!!

    1. Isn’t it hard to believe?! Time really flew by this spring. :) Y’all have a busy summer! Hopefully we will have an opportunity to visit before it’s completely over! Enjoy your weekend, Kandance!!

  14. Great photos everyone!

The past couple weeks my family and I had a wonderful walking adventure– we visited Washington D.C., colonial Williamsburg, and the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in KY! The trip was so much fun, and the ark was AMAZING!!! Has anyone else been there? I hope to send some fun pictures of our adventures for next week’s post! :)

As that was our “big vacation”… this summer I will be working full-time! :)

    1. What a fantastic walking adventure, Natalie!! Wow, that’s quite a trip. :) I haven’t been to the ark… yet! We do hope to go one day soon. <3

  15. Such fun pictures!

Yes, I plan to keep walking. It’s so easy to not take care of myself in the busyness of life, so this has been a super good challenge for me, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot! My big summer plans include doing two camps for children in foster care, fixing up my future home, and planning for my October wedding.

Blessings to each of you fellow Spring100 friends!
