“But I have trusted in Thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because He hath dealt bountifully with me.”
Psalm 13:5-6

“Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”
Mark 5:19
Hello Rachel!
I’m a new subscriber. My sister & I are Garlands of Grace followers. We truly appreciate your blog and the encouragement that is shared through it.
Answer to Q #1 Probably my Mom, because I enjoy spending time talking together and hearing her childhood stories.
Answer to Q #2 My family has a tradition we do every once in a great while called a “silly supper” basically it’s junk food like fried jalapeno poppers/taquitos/cheese sticks/pizza bites/ crackers and chips along with a huge veggie tray and lunch meats… it’s very random.
Answer to Q #3 Draw… looks like a 2yr olds picture when I’m done drawingπ
I’d rather live without the internet.
Trinity!! What a blessing to hear from you. THANK YOU for taking the time to comment! π𧑠I am so glad you found my tiny spot on the world wide web and praying the Lord encourages you through all that is shared + the small but extremely sweet and uplifting community that it holds.π€
Your family’s tradition of a “silly supper” sounds super fun!! We do something similar on New Year’s Eve. π
Hehe, I am so glad I am not alone when it comes to drawing. Definitely not something the Lord has gifted me in!! πππ
Thank you again, Trinity! Hearing from new blog friends always makes my day! π§‘
“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” 1 Thes 5:11
Random Question: Did you once live in Missouri?
Yes, many long years ago! ππ
Oooo yay!!! What a daymaker to see a “new post” notification in my emails! π€©
1). 10 hour airplane flight?!?! π³ That’s sounds terrifying! π¬ππ So I’d have to pick someone that’s great at making me laugh to distract me from being scared of being up in the airπ€ͺ….. And some of the people that are the best at making me laugh are : You (Rachel) or any of your sistersπ, my uncle Jay, or My momπ….. Any of you would be the perfect distraction, and so that’s why I’d choose of of you people on the listπ
2).π€ The only really strange combination I’ve tried is scrambled eggs and peanut butter, and I liked it! Wouldn’t say it was a favorite, but it was enjoyable enough! ππ
3). Oh, lots of thingsπππ Whistling, sewing, painting, running, jump roping, and winking π to name a few!!!
I suppose I would rather live without heating and air conditioning πI could just turn on all the ceiling fans or take ice cold showers to cool off in the summer, and wrap up in tons of blankets and drink a lot of coffee to stay warm in the winter…. The Internet is super useful to help solve various issues including how to treat various insect bites and stings, figuring out if certain snakes/caterpillars/spiders are poisonous, and tons of other things! But I’m glad I don’t have to live without either, because both are such a wonderful convenience, and such great gifts to have from the Lord!!
Loved the questions Rachel!!! What are YOUR answers to them? π§π€ππ Also, I LOVED the verses you shared!! Thank you for the encouragement!! π
Ah!! SO glad it was a daymaker.π€ It was a HUGE blessing for me to find a good solid hour and be able to sit down to blog!! πππ
1.) Hehe, well if every you want a flying partner… you will find a few eager gals here any day! I love to fly though I do it very very little! πβοΈ
2.) π Yeah, that is a strange combination!!! Ha, can’t say I have or ever will give it a try.π€ͺ
3.) I can’t wink in real life either so you aren’t alone! Thankfully I never really need to in person so an emoji wink does the job.π
SOOOO happy you enjoyed the random questions and scripture shared!! Going to give my answers below a little later in Sheri’s comment since she asked the same. Stay tuned!! π€π
Hi, Rachel!
IF QUESTION 1 is a person throughout history, I would absolutely want to sit next to the Lord Jesus for 10 hours, to listen and learn of Him, be rebuked, counseled, and taught. Because He certainly doesn’t need a plane to get wherever He wants to go, He would be on the flight in order to be with me, and perhaps to impact the lives of others on the plane! (And it is wonderful that we have the Bible to read for fellowship in the Lord on a 10 hour flight!) But if you mean a living, contemporary person, then I would want to sit next to a comfortable family member or a good friend because I would want the peace and comfort of someone loved sitting beside me on a long 10 hour flight.
QUESTION 2 Weird food combo: My favorite would have to be pumpkin chili!! I substitute Libby’s canned pumpkin for tomatoes and tomato sauce, and add cinnamon!!! Yum!!!! A wonderful Fall meal. My base recipe always includes ground turkey, onion, black beans, pumpkin, cinnamon, chili powder and Himalayan pink salt. I also sometimes add garlic, dill, ground pepper, and other herbs.
QUESTION 3 Something I can’t do well: This is a bit embarrassing, but the first thing that came to mind is, dance. I haven’t partner danced in about 43 years, and I was never really good at it. I have rhythm, but I always felt so awkward. Now, if I’m happy and alone in my house, and I try to waltz to some pretty tune, I’m like a clunk with 2 left feet. ;-)
WOULD YOU RATHER is an easy one! I love the Internet, don’t get me wrong, but who could sit and enjoy the Internet if they are shivering with the cold, and so bundled up that they can’t reach the keyboard? Haha! Or who could enjoy the Internet while sweating buckets and becoming increasingly irritated because their faces are red and their temperatures are reaching a boiling point? :-D Nope, I enjoy the amazing luxury of my central air conditioner/heater unit. I also love my little portable space heater. Ahhhh!
Loved the questions, and loved your random photos. Always so special and fun!!!
So, what about you, Rachel? How would you answer the questions?
I absolutely LOVE all your answers, Sheri!! β€οΈ Thank you for taking time to answer and join in the fun :) :)
Isn’t it wonderful that we have the living Word of God that can go with us? Whether it’s a 10-hour flight or a quiet spot in your own home. So thankful for that!!
I will admit, I have never heard of pumpkin chili!! I have tried savory pumpkin soups before which are delicious so I can see where the Pumpkin chili would be good.π€π I might omit the cinnamon from my bowl and add plenty of extra garlic!
I love your honest “first thing that came to mind” answer.π Don’t feel bad! I have never attempted to dance with a partner but I am sure I would be worse off than you as I don’t have rhythm. I laugh just thinking about how I would look! My poor partner would be black and blue all over his toes! π
In Florida, you need the AC!!!!!!π₯΅βοΈ
Okay, to answer both you and Anna! My answers:
1.) Oh, that is tough. Definitely one of my siblings or my parents but I can’t narrow it down to which one!π
2.) Weird food combinations I enjoy would be Oven roasted Brussel sprouts topped off with crumbled goat cheese and a healthy drizzle of homemade honey mustard dressing! Seriously, absolutely delicious but I think I gross my grandpa out when I come to the dinner table with a plate full.π
3.) Something I canβt do well would be color!π As crazy as that sounds!! My little sisters will often ask me to color a page with them and I usually end the evening laughing as they are far superior in their coloring skills.ππ
Would you rather live without the internet or live without Air Conditioning and heating? Now, if I was being 100% selfish in my choice, I have always been one who has admired the idea of living without a smartphone or computer. I would love to learn how to accomplish something without running to google for step by step advice and get back to the good old-fashioned way of communicating with one’s neighbor. Soooo, my first selfish answer would be I would gladly do without the internet. But if I was thinking practically and selflessly, I would have to choose AC/Heating as our business and my job is dependent on the internet connection at the moment! π€·πΌββοΈπ
For the record, I am much more decisive in person than I am on my random question Wednesday posts! π€£π
Mmm, the Brussels sprouts dish sounds yummy!!! I have some Brussels sprouts, so I’m going to give it a try! My chili recipe is an original from a friend who lives on a large dairy/poultry/produce farm with her parents. The first time I tasted it was at their house during lambing season. A special memory.
I had to laugh at your “can’t-do-it-well” answer. At least you get a laugh out of the end result! Mission accomplished! Art needs to illicit an emotion: yours just happens to be a giggle or two. ;-)
Loved your answer on your “would-you-rather” question! I use the Internet occasionally for my job too. I’m online every day, but I have been without heating twice in my life and it was no fun. Once was living in snow-country. I had no source of heat except a tiny space-heater that couldn’t cut the cold. Every morning I had to scrape ice off the insides of my windows to see outside. My breath billowed white inside the house. After I moved to Florida, I was without A/C for the first 10 years or so. I learned how to cope, but it wasn’t easy. Hence, my answer. :-)
I laughed at your last comment! So cute, and I know it’s true!
Thanks!
1.) Who would you most like to sit next to on a 10-hour flight and why?
Hmm, I think I would pick one of my family members because I love traveling with my family, and I would want to sit next to someone I’m very comfortable with. :)
2.) What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?
Egg sandwiches with bread and butter pickles on the side! That may not sound all that strange, but that is one of my go-to comfort foods, and probably not something most people eat together.
3.) Whatβs something that youβve never been able to do well?
Draw! It’s something I’ve always wanted to be able to do, but drawing talent just does not run in our family.
Would you rather live without the internet or live without Air Conditioning and heating?
This is so hard! I use both of these on an everyday basis, so my life would be a lot different without either one. If I could live in a place with a comfortable climate, I would pick no heat and air. Living here, I would probably have to say no internet because the summers would just be too miserable for me to even enjoy my internet! :D
Bethany!!!!!!! Yay, so happy to see your answers.ππΌββοΈπ
How long was your flight when y’all went to Europe?? I bet the three of you had so much fun during it!
I like butter pickles and egg sandwiches but have never had them together.ππ
Oh! I have always wanted to be good at drawing too. β€οΈ
Isn’t the would you rather question hard? It was actually harder for me to answer than I thought it would be.π It is funny how quickly things become a part of one’s daily life! Thankful the Lord has blessed me with both for the moment!π
Thank you for blessing us with your fun answers, Bethany!! π€β€οΈ
Your comments are fun to read, Rachel!! :D Our longest flight was about 9 hours long. We had about 12 flights in 2 weeks I believe, so we had plenty of flying time, and we did enjoy it when we were awake. ;) You should try pickles and egg sandwiches!! They’re SO good!
Yes, it’s amazing how we can get used to internet and live like we’ve always had it.
Thank you for the fun post! I enjoyed the pictures.
Havenβt answered one of these in a while so I think I will today!
1) Probably my best friend or one of my sisters!π€
2) French fries and ice cream! Not sure if thatβs weird but itβs delicious!
3) Iβve never been able to draw very well, especially people, but Iβm working on it!π
Well I love the internet very much but here in Canada I would die if we didnβt have heating!π₯Ά So no internet is the only option!
This was so fun Rachel! And side note, but those puppies are so cute! What kind are they? We had 4 German Shepherd puppies 2 months ago but we only have one left now because theyβre getting sold
Yay!!!!!! LOVE seeing your comments come in, Abigail!! Thank you so much. ππ
You know, Ice cream and french fries are enjoyed by a few members of my family too. Something about the salty-sweet combination I guess! ππ¦
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! Keep on working at it. That is great you are trying to improve instead of just giving up! ππ»ππ»ππ»
Oh my, YES! It gets COLD up there!!!!! Stay warm and enjoy the internet. π
The puppies are Pyranees-German Shepherd cross! We are training them to be guard dogs for our sheep so they stay with the sheep or in the pen 24/7. Super cute and growing so fast!! They love it when the little girls go up to the pen to play with them!ππΆπΆ I bet German Shepherd Puppies are claimed fast. So cute!
1. Probably my sister or a friend.
2. Every once in a while I get a weird craving for fried eggs and potato chips and dip for lunch :D I don’t know why, but it’s just so good!!
3. The first thing that came to my mind was playing volleyball. I am absolutely horrible at it! Many of my friends love the game so I normally end up playing a fair amount, but I’m still terrible at it.
Other things I’m not good at would be whistling (like not at all :D) and sewing.
I would probably go without air conditioning and heat. Like you, my business is dependent on the internet.
I forgot to comment on the previous post, but those pictures of Austin and Amanda’s wedding were absolutely stunning!! You and Grace did an amazing job!!!!!
Emma!!!!!! Thanks to a sweet friend, I just discovered your comment.π±β₯οΈ I am not sure how that slipped in without me seeing it!!
Sisters make some of the best traveling companions, don’t they? I have had many FABULOUS trips with my sisters!! π
Ha, that is definitely a different combination and one I have never given a try!! I do love fried eggs so next time I have one with potato chips and dip nearby… I will put it together and give it a try.πππΌ
ππ Ok, volleyball is something I am horrible at too but for some reason, it’s the game of choice for get-togethers! Good for you getting out and playing even if it’s not one of your strengths. ππ»π§‘
Smart choice keeping the internet when your business is dependent on it.π
Ah!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. π You are encouraging!! We had such a fun time taking the photos and so thankful to the Lord. It was a beautiful wedding day!!
THANK YOU for making my day with your comment, Emma!! It took me a good week to find it but I am thankful I did.π Your answers are so fun to see! ππ
I would most like to sit beside my older sister Emma or my older brother William, or my best friend on a 10 hour flight. :)
I would sit beside my older sister Emma because we are very close to each other and have amazing conversations and we could talk about all kinds of things for 10 hours straight!!π I would sit beside my older brother William because he likes to play games and we could play lots of games and have a lot of fun and wouldn’t get bored. And I would sit next to my best friend because I love her and we’re inseperable . π₯°π€βΊοΈπ
If I was allowed to sit next to someone in History then I would sit next to Dietrich Bonhoeffer so I could have a nice long talk with him and get to know him better. I am really interested in him and his story and testimony.π
I’m not sure I have any weird food combinations that I like…lemme think…Um….maybe Banana with peanut butter on it. That’s the weirdest thing I can think of and it’s not very weird!ππππ
Something I’ve never been able to do well is probably quilling, I’ve always wanted to be able to do quilling but I’ve never been able to do it very well.π
Hmm…. I think I would rather live without the internet….I hate being hot and I hate being cold and while the internet is nice for emailing and blogs etc…. You could always just write letters to people.πππ Internet is useful but I really, really, don’t like being too hot or too cold!πππ Which would YOU choose Rachel???
And I LOVE your random picture dump! looks lie you’ve been having fun! and those puppies are just TOO CUTE!!!!! They give me the warm fuzzies just looking at them!! such darlings!π₯°ππ€βΊοΈππππππ
Caroline!!! So happy to see you hop on and answer. THANK YOU!!!!πππ
Great choices and reasons why you chose the flight company.π I do agree, Dietrich Bonhoeffer has quite a testimony. So amazed to see how the Lord used him!!β€οΈ
I had to look up quilling as I had never heard of it before! There are some impressive quillers out there.π±
I bet you would do a wonderful job keeping up with friends if you didn’t have internet, Caroline!! You have been gifted when it comes to handwritten notes and keeping in touch with friends through snail mail.π§‘
I am so so glad you enjoy the random pictures!! I always enjoy sharing when I can. Aren’t those puppies irresistibly fluffy?? SO cute. πΆπ Thank you for being an encouragement!!!

Oops! I only just realized that my comment posted twice! πππ
Iβd love to sit on a 10 hour flight with my grandmother. She was the only professing Christian I knew as a child and as a young lady. She passed away when I was a very busy, very young mother and I didnβt have the time or maturity to thoroughly get to know her.
Iβd have to ask my children about my weakness for any weird food combinations. Weird food eaters donβt think they eat anything really weird:) How about a toasted chicken, provolone and raspberry jam sandwich? My nearly every morning treat is coffee with a little heavy cream and honey. Every-once-in-a-blue-moon I enjoy plain yogurt with bananas and caramel sauce.
I cannot carry a tune, or stay very quiet for a long time or keep a really healthy lean diet; but praying to be blessed with all three:)
YAY!!!!!!!!!!! LOOOOOVED seeing your answers. THANK YOU, Mom!! πππ
Hehe, I like that sandwich too… so I don’t count it as a weird food combo. Maybe the Bananas with yogurt and caramel would be the strangest thing I have seen you eat. π
Michelle, your sandwich combo actually sounds delicious to me! I must be a weird food compatriot. :-)
p.s. I think Iβd have to flip a coin for giving up internet or a.c. I think Iβd have to keep the air conditioning (allergies). Someday Iβd like to see if I could live without both!
Howdy! I just found your blog, and love it already! Let me start off by saying that I too am a photographer!
1) most likey I would sit with my younger sister. We would tell all sorts of stories and giggle most of the flightπ. If it could be a historical figure, I would probably choose James Garfield. As a Civil War veteran and devout Christian, he would be very interesting to talk to.
2) pickles and chips. If one doesn’t have plain or ripple chips, bbq chips taste amazing too. Totally weird, but my sister and I love it!
3) I have never been able to do good landscape photography. Try as I might, lol. π It something I would like to learn…. Just haven’t had the time yet.
I could certainly live without the internet, but only after I got the computer programs I need for my photography! I could also do without AC, as I have before, but not heat!!π I’ve grown up with a wood stove my whole life and it gives off glorious heatππ
Heather!!! What a blessing to hear from you!! Welcome to the blog. π€β₯οΈ Love meeting a fellow photographer!! How long have you been into photography?
Arenβt sisters the best for traveling partners??π So many great memories traveling with my sisters!
π That is a weird combination but Next time I have a chip and a pickle at the same time, Iβll be thinking of you. π
Ooooh! Landscape photography is challenge!! Once you find time, you will have a fun time learning the art of photographing a landscape.
I do think living without the heat would be my biggest challenge. We too have lived in homes over the years without AC and you learn to deal with it during the heat of the summer. BUUUUT to be frozen isnβt the most ideal situation! π³π₯Άπ
Thank you for taking time to comment, Heather!! Itβs such a daymaker to hear from first time commenters!!!πβ₯οΈ
First off, SUCH fun photos, dear Rachel!!!!!!π€β₯οΈ SO much fun!!!!π Now to the random answers…π
1.Ooh…I’ve never flown in an airplaneπ, but if I did, I think I’d want someone next to me that I could TALK too!!!!!π A huge blessing would be someone I could share many encouraging conversations with, and one of those people I think of is YOU, my dear sister-friend Rachel!!!!!π€β₯οΈ
2. I know some people are very particular about keeping their food separate on their plate, but for me…not so much.π Soooo, sometimes when we go to a potluck, I get talking to someone, and just enjoy my…food!π I often end up with all kinds of funny food combinations, but I don’t even think about it…sometimes you discover some REALLY good combinations!!!π
3. Random thing I’m not good at…limbo!!!! It’s funny, because I’m shorter stature, so people would think I would be good at it, but for some reason, I’m just not too flexible.ππππ
Wow! That “would you rather” is rather tricky…I use internet alot. But if it came to that, I think maybe I’d say I’d rather have the AC and heat!π Of course, I think I could make it with wood heat and fans, but still….π
Sooooo much fun!! Thank you bunches for these weekly posts, Rachel!!!π€ Hmmmm, a random question for you now… would you rather vacation to the beach or the mountains????
Love you, friend!β₯οΈ
ππ Hoooray!! I love love love it when you join the Random Question Fun!!ππ»π
πβΊοΈπ Aw, I would sit next to you on a 10-hour flight ANY DAY!!!!!! π𧑠I think we’d have a ton of fun, lots of laughs, and great conversation!! βΊοΈ
Haha, I love your version of funny food combinations!! I know how that is. Especially when the potluck has too many options you want to give a try. Your potluck plate would perfectly describe my plate on Thanksgiving!! π
πππ I am horrible at LIMBO so I am relieved to not be alone at that game!!!!!!!! I am not super tall either(5’4″ or so) but flexibility isn’t my strength.
Isn’t that would you rather a little tricky? Tricker than I first thought it would be! π©πΌβπ»π₯
Oh!! Now your question was a tough one as I love the mountains and beaches! I do have a preferred location depending on the time of year. ;) If it’s spring and summer, take me to the beach!!!!!! If it’s Fall, I would want to be in the mountains to see the changing leaves and hike(LOVE to hike!!) and if it’s winter, well… it would depend on if the beach was warm or the mountain location had a nice cozy cabin with large fire place and hot chocolateππ. BUT if I had to choose one over another, I guess I would have to say a warm BEACH would be my first choice!ππ¬π¦
Happy Wednesday, Martha Joy! Thank you for making my day with your comment. ππ
Lol!!!!ππ LOVED your reply, dear Rachel!!!!!!!!β₯οΈ Ahhhh, and we share that limbo weakness then!!!!π Yep, and I’m about 5’3″, so maybe being short just has no advantage???π€·ββοΈ
I really enjoy the woods and hollows, but I sure did ENJOY our big trip to the beach last Summer too (and my second beach experience…the last time I was less-than-1)!!!!π€ God’s creation has so much fun beauty and VARIETY in it!
I hope you’re enjoying a very, VERY blessed Wednesday, Rachel!!!!β₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈ Sending a hug!πββοΈ
