The Candy Cane…✨❄️

This video is quite a few years old and the little guy it features isn’t so little anymore but I still love sharing it! ? A brief history lesson on the Candy Cane. ? 2 QUESTIONS to leave you all with!! I would love to see your answer below. 1.) What is your favorite Christmas Bible Verse & 2.) What’s your favorite Christmas Cookie? ✨❄️

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5

About Rachel

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 1:18-20

  1. My favorite Christmas verse isn’t found in the Gospels. It is Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” Wonderful, loving, giving Names that are above all other names!

The recipe of my favorite Christmas cookie dates back to a time before artificial Christmas trees and TVs. It is called, “Ice Box Cookies” when refrigerators were called ice boxes. (I remember that time.) The recipe was handed down from my grandmother. It makes a BIG batch:
    1 lb. butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
    3 eggs
    1 lb. dates, chopped coarsely
    2 cups walnut pieces
    6 cups flour
    1 rounded tsp baking soda
    1 Tbsp cinnamon
Melt butter, add sugar and eggs, and stir. Add dates and nuts and stir again. Then add brown sugar, flour, soda, and cinnamon. Mix with hands in a large bowl.
Shape the dough into 3 log rolls. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate at least 12 hours to set the dough.
    Pre-heat oven to 350.
Slice a roll or rolls 1/4″ thick and place on cookie sheet.
    Bake 10-12 mins.
    Tips:
Be VERY careful not to burn. Do not overbake!!
    Dough may be frozen.
Delicious raw! (We usually ate half of it raw.) ;-)
    No other flavor like them.

    1. Isaiah 9:6 is a favorite for me! I’ve been meditating on peace-filled scripture this Christmas! I love pairing Isaiah 9:6 with Luke 1:78-79:

“Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
      ‭‭
      Jesus Christ is our Peace….?

?I’ve heard of Ice Box Cookies but haven’t tried them yet!! Now that I have the recipe, I need to. Hehe, I understand the eating half raw!! ??

    2. I love what you shared and the recipe to boot. My MIL still calls the refrigerator an ice box! She is the one who shared the blog about if you remember these certain things wellllllllllllll….you know! She remembered all on the list, I remembered quite a bit! I have a recipe for icebox cakes from an old magazine. It is my favorite type of cake to make with icebox frosting, of course! I shall have to try this recipe. Sounds very good. Did you always use dates or did you sometimes use raisins or craisins? How about a different nut? I’m sure it changes the flavor. Sometimes certain ingredients aren’t on hand so I was curious.

      1. Right. We never changed the recipe on this one, like we sometimes did on others. A different combination would change the taste. (I usually don’t like walnuts in baked goodies, but I did in this recipe. I prefer almonds or pecans, if I used nuts at all, though I don’t bake for myself anymore because I can’t have sugar.) Dates are sweeter than raisins or craisins, but you’re certainly welcome to substitute another nut variety or dried fruit, and check it out. :-) (Your Ice Box Cake sounds fun.)

    1. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
      ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭❤️
