Have you considered the company you’re keeping?

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23

Y’all ready for a  random Saturday thought?! ? Smartphones, laptops, & computers… we all have at least one of these, don’t we?! For some, your iPhone has become an extension of your arm ;). It is a tool which holds your  socialization, communication, work, and inspiration. For all of us, they are fun tools that can be used for lots of good but also can be used for a great amount of  evil…. the choice is ours to make[Deut 30:15-17]!   So, have you considered the company you’re keeping on these devices? :) In 1 Corinthians 15:33 we are told “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” And in  Proverbs 12:26 it says, “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.”  These verses do not  say bad company “might” or “could potentially” lead us astray  but bad company WILL lead us astray and corrupt good character! We find ourselves in a funny time when our friends and company are not just the people or place we physically interact with but also the company we choose to keep online. Facebook/Instagram friends or pages, blogs you follow, youtube videos you watch will affect and define you just the same as that company mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:33 and should be carefully chosen. It is very easy to think, “just because I follow them online doesn’t mean their languages/attitude/thoughts/etc. will effect me” BUT remember,  the people and pages you choose to follow and set before your eyes will have a huge impact on you spiritually. If they are “bad company”, they will ultimately corrupt good character. In Psalm 1:1 we are toldBLESSED is the man that walketh NOT in the counsel of the ungodly, NOR standeth in the way of sinners, NOR sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”  We are also commanded to “guard thy heart with all diligence” [Prov 4:23]. I am reminded of the command to “Be sober, be vigilant; BECAUSE your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”[1 Peter 5:8]. So, today I want to encourage you to choose holiness in ever nook and cranny of your heart and life…  including in the social networking sphere and people you follow online!  Guard your heart with all diligence as you pick up your phone and flip on your favorite social networking app. Remember, good and evil are set before you! You will be given the choice to pursue worldliness or holiness in your online conduct just as you face that choice in your every day life and what you choose will either negatively or positively affect your heart and life. To be holy means to be set apart and we see in 1 Peter 1:16 the command to “Be ye holy; for I am holy”. God calls us to live a set-apart life. This may not make you the most popular online presence… and that’s okay! ? If we are seeking to honor the Lord in our online conduct/company we will most likely not be the most popular but we will be a shining light in a very dark place. This is what we are called to do[Matt 5:16]!! He has made us “peculiar people” that we might “shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” and this including our online presence. So my friends… this is my quick randomly random Saturday afternoon musing!? Consider the company you’re keeping carefully… including social network company. Is the online company you keep feeding holiness or worldliness? Seek holiness in all your conduct including your online interactions! And thoroughly Enjoy your evening! ❤️??

About Rachel

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 1:18-20

  1. Right on, Rachel!! Thank you for the reminder!????❤️

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ!
    2 Corinthians 10:5

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.-Phil 4:8 ?

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” Psalm 101:3

  3. Rachel, That was wonderful thoughts that all Christians need to be encouraged to ponder. Thank you for reminding us
and for the scriptures you applied to these thoughts. Our Father is concerned with every area of our lives and wants to be included in it, even online. And His admonitions are for our good.

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Griggs

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Mrs. Griggs! I was so blessed by it. Yes, His commands truly are for our good and His glory! <3 I love how 1 John 5:4 says “His commandments are not grievous.” :) Isn’t that the truth?!

“And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.” Ps 19:47

  4. Thank you so much for sharing all these truths!

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
