So Long Starbucks…

Starbucks’ employees participating in a gay pride parade

“we want to embrace diversity…This was not an economic decision.”

{ Starbucks’ CEO March 20th, 2013}

“Starbucks, the world’s largest coffee shop chain, added its name to the list of major corporations that have endorsed a gay marriage bill in Washington State, saying the legislation shares the company’s values at its core.”

{ January 27, 2012}

“Starbucks Pride Alliance Network works to affect positive change and increase awareness of the LGBT community within Starbucks. We strive to Cultivate and equitable, dynamic, and supportive environment for LGBT partners, allies and customers.”

“The following employers offer matching gift programs and will match your Planned Parenthood Shasta-Diablo contribution:…. Starbucks

“If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that weighs the heart consider it? and he that keeps your soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?”
Proverbs 24:12

Okay, this is long… please take time to read, think & pray about what is posted, and leave comment{positive or negative} if you have one. :) It is always really the easiest thing for me to keep away from debatable subjects on my blog but the Lord doesn’t call me to keep silent in the face of evil and has placed it on my heart to repost an old post. It was Dietrich Bonhoeffer who said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” and in Ephesians we are called to “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” Somewhere around 1.5 years ago I posted a post that has since been my most viewed post. 1,500 views from google search, 54 shares of facebook, and 1 tweet later here I am again. :) The subject? Goodbye Starbucks…. I am re-posting my original post below!

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:12-13

My often jumbled thoughts have come to just one thought and one exciting fact tonight: If we can’t take a stand for truth in what may seem like a small issues{though the murder of innocent children and the protection of marriage between are far beyond “small issues”} and give up a cup of coffee{stop supporting starbucks} what will happen when something bigger comes our way? We are called to be faithful in the little things as well as the big things. As starbucks becomes more vocal about their stance and agenda, we Christians can push back and show them we are serious about ours! :) We can take a stand and say “no, we will not support a business that so blatantly support homosexuality & muder{abortion}”. Remember, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” :)With the above quotes, I have nothing more to add other than I post humbly and I pray that the Lord will use this post as He sees fit and for His glory. And that you will stand with me in the boycott against starbucks! :)

I also would encourage you to jump over to and sign the petition.

My original post:

Goodbye Starbucks | Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not

The last year I have been thinking over James 4:17 a LOT! In all areas of life whether it be work, politics, what I spend my time doing, the amount of time I spend a day on the internet, physical health (what type of food I put in my body and the amount of exercise I put out), spiritual health, aaaaaaannnnnd where I go and spend the money God has given me. Yes, I have a point to this post and I am going to get to it VERY soon :)

“Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.”
James 4:17

The decision I have made could be the breaking point of many friendship, all that have been held together by the strong bond of Starbucks Coffee ;)

Goodbye frappiccinos, Americanos, birthday cake pops, and anything else bearing the label “Starbucks”. Why? Some one mention to my Dad a few days ago that Starbucks funds both the murder of babies (aka Planned Parenthood) and homosexuals. My Dad asked me to look into it and see if there was any truth and it was all true. If you would like to find out for yourself type ” does Starbucks supports planned Parenthood” into any search bar or to make it easier read THIS article. So, goodbye Starbucks. Yes, I know what you are thinking, ” You can’t win every battle!” or “Every big company does this so where are you suppose to stop?” BUT in my opinion with knowledge comes responsibility and I now know or more appropriately worded, ” him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin”. So, I can’t and wont fund/support Starbucks because I know better. In supporting Starbucks any further, I am knowingly helping support both murder and homosexuality.

” And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

Ephesians 5:11

So, now that you know are you with me?! ;)

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. “

Matthew 5:13-16

About Rachel

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 1:18-20

  1. Hi,
I am a young lady from a medium sized homeschool family (7 kids, 5 living). I found your blog through another Christian lady’s blog. I love it because we have a lot of similar interests including photography. I’m not one to comment, but I really appreciate the stand you are taking on this one. (Homemade works pretty well. :))

    1. Hello Beth Ann! :) First off, you completely made my day by posting a comment! It is always a blessing to “meet” those who frequent my blog!! If you are interested in photography and come from a big family than we have a quite a bit in common!! :)

And thank you. I appreciate your support! :) This is a stand that The Lord has put on my heart and given me the strength and resolve to follow through with! Hoping & praying many more join me!! Homemade works wonderfully! ;) Don’t hesitate to comment in the future. I love receiving them! :) Numbers 6:24-26

  2. “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” Luke 16:10

  3. Rachel,
I appreciate this blog post, I know my comment is very much after the date of the post, but as my siblings are always happy to remind me “Its better late than never”. :) So, hoping this holds true…
Yes, it is indeed true that Starbucks supports homosexuality and abortion. One thing that has always bothered me, is that people often think that boycotting is useless or ineffective. In some cases I think that we may never see a result from our choice to not support an organization, but I do think it makes a difference as we are choosing to do what, I believe, is truly right. Starbucks may not see it as detrimental to their business, but the more others are aware of the things they support, the more likelihood that there will be a greater impact. For many of the people I come in contact with, awareness is the biggest issue. So, I thank you for posting about this.
I was also wondering what you would do about gift cards? We (my family and I) have not been supporting Starbucks for probably over a year, however, we have had several gift cards gifted to us. We…………….. ahem…….. spend them. Our thought is that if we don’t, they will get all the money and make a higher profit than if we buy a product. They are then, at least, having to foot the cost of the product but will make less of a profit. I’m not sure how much I’m on board with this thought, but I can see the reasoning. If Starbucks does do some sort of “take back” (I’m not sure what the right word/phrase for this is) of money that is put on a gift card but not spent than they are certainly making less when a purchase is made. However, if they don’t than they are technically making money off of us. :(
I will make the comment that for most in my family giving up Starbucks was not a hardship. Most of us don’t like coffee and never really purchased any of their products. However, I will say that our boycotting Home Depot has been a little more difficult as their products are often comparable to other similar stores. Although, as time has passed, for the most part we don’t even think of them anymore.

Thanks for taking a stand against this and for the time and effort it cost to make this post.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting, Christina! I have gotten into the habit of blogging daily{usually} so your comment isn’t past due, my posts just come too frequently! ;) And thank you for the encouragement! It is such a blessing. I often feel like shying away from posting posts like this as I don’t want to look like a “lover of controversy”{stirring up controversy isn’t my aim}. But I know the need to inform and encourage my brothers & sisters in Christ to take a stand for righteousness. So I post! :)

I completely and absolutely agree with you 185%! :) I believe Boycotts{when we follow through with them} can work and if they don’t then at least we are standing for truth & righteousness! I saw this short clip for the first time today and thought it was good & straight to the point:
The starbucks boycott is obviously showing itself enough to have to be brought up by the CEO at Starbucks’ last annual shareholders meeting. I was encouraged to hear that! :)
And when it comes to the gift cards{I could be really wrong?} but if they cant be turned in for cash {which I don’t think they can} use them! Otherwise it is free cash for starbucks! ;)
Giving up Starbucks was a big deal for my family! ;) We all LOVE coffee and Starbucks is really the only chain coffee shop. But now we don’t miss it at all! We have all become quite fond of home-made coffee drinks! Home depot was obviously a bigger deal for my Dad as their prices are always competitive! But, thankfully, there are plenty more hardware/home-improvement stores near by!

Thank you for taking time to comment! It means a lot to me!!

Leave a comment and make my day! ;)
